started from scratch, now we’re here!

I often get caught up in the whirlwind of a project, becoming so engrossed in the small details that I forget to stop and reflect on the progress. Before I know it, I'm immersed in the next task without pausing to appreciate the transformation of the space. Soon enough, I find myself moving on to another job in a different location, and the cycle begins again. Recently, I decided to take a step back and review the projects I've worked on. It was delightful to see how they’ve come together, and I wanted to share some before and after images with you!

This was one of the first projects I designed under my own business. My client, SEKKISEI, is a Japanese skincare brand focused on creating revolutionary products using organic materials. The problem: when I first entered their showroom, I did not get that message; instead, it felt like a science lab! I immediately set out to revitalize the space, clarify its focus, and create an area that guests would love to visit to try out the products.

As you’ll see, there were many issues with this space:

  • The rug was disproportionately small.

  • The layout was poorly conceived, with a horizontal table obstructing the flow of movement.

  • There was a large, underutilized wall.

  • Display cases were relegated to a corner.

  • The room felt cold and sterile.

And I thought: we can do better!

When designing a space for a corporate client or brand, my focus is to create a clear vision of the brand through the design. As evident in the initial state of this room, the space felt disjointed. It was important to make the room reflect the products and the brand’s values so that guests immediately understand the overall vision.

My objective in redesigning the room was to infuse it with a sense of nature and tranquility. We replaced the harsh white and blue walls with a warm off-white/beige. I then incorporated various neutral shades and natural materials. We eliminated the cold metallic elements, introducing wood and greenery for a natural touch. A properly sized rug was added, and a custom, branded cabinet was built to act as both storage and a feature product display. I relocated and redesigned the raw materials display wall, ensuring clarity and ease of access by enlarging the entire feature and branding the accompanying signage. Finally, I adorned the room with custom logos and marketing pieces in their signature blue, providing a vibrant pop of color.

As you can see, the result was overwhelmingly gorgeous. The new, simplistic design made a significant impact on the brand. Visitors now get excited to go to the showroom and try out the products. I'm very pleased with how it turned out!
